Benchlight is a research prototype. It brings the public record of the
federal appellate judiciary — the judges who sit, the seats that are open,
and the cases and opinions that come out of these courts — together in one
place.
Biographical and appointment data comes from the Federal Judicial Center's
Biographical Directory of Article III Judges. Case, panel, opinion and
oral-argument data comes from CourtListener, a project of the Free Law
Project. Both publish this material for public use; neither reviews what
appears on Benchlight, and neither endorses it. Benchlight is not part of
the federal judiciary and has no connection to any court, to the
Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, or to any judge.
Benchlight is an independent, nonpartisan public resource. It is free to
use and not run for profit.
