As an 18-year-old, Bernard Howard was convicted of a triple homicide after he gave a statement confessing he participated in the crime. He spent 26 years in prison before a Michigan court vacated his convictions at the request of the prosecuting office, after an investigation yielding evidence that Howard’s confession was unreliable and coerced by Detroit police officers.
